Ok now we need to prepare the pitcher for putting the spout on. You can use any kind of knife. I prefer to use an Exacto blade because they are very thin and sharp and it doesn't change the shape of the clay very much, but I'm just going to cut out a little area here and I'm going to make sure that that's big enough. It is, for my little pitcher spout. So once you've done that, anytime you attach clay to clay, especially if they're slightly different drynesses like this is wetter than this is, it's incredibly important to score and slip, and what that means, you take a little tool, you can use just one needle tool or they sell these that have multiple needles and you make cuts in the clay and you want to get that wet and then cut it up so that you get kind of a goopy edge there, and the purpose of this is so that the moisture balance between the two clays that they'll lock together and the moisture can transfer back and forth and it won't pop off because if you don't score and slip and you just try to squish them together this will dry faster and the spout will come right off and you don't want that to happen.
