"Hi, my name's Elissa, with Expert Village and today I'm going to show you how to crochet a beanie. Now that you've mastered the chain stitch, I'm going to show you how to chain stich in a spiral so you can start your beanie. If you'll notice here, how you'll want to crochet your beanie is to start at the top and spiral your way down to the bottom of the beanie. As opposed to a scarf, where you are crocheting in rows, we are going to be crocheting in a spiral. Our starting point will be right here at the very top and center of the beanie and we'll stitch around and around and around. I'll show you how to stitch in a spiral. You're going to start with your slip knot and get a good grip on your yarn, and do a chain stitch. You are only going to do about three stitches. There is one. Put your hook in front of the yarn, behind the yarn, and pull it through. That's two. Again, in front of the yarn, behind the yarn, and pull it through for the third. Now that we have three stitches, we're going to connect this end to this end by simply pulling our hook through the very first stitch by the slip knot and doing a single crochet to connect it, which is just putting the hook in front of the yarn, behind the yarn, pulling it through the first loop and then the second loop. Now you have a chain stitch in a circle. I'll show you that again. We'll just pull all of our stitches out and start with our slip knot. Get a good grip on your yarn. We'll do three chain stitches; in front of the yarn, behind the yarn and pull it through; there's one. In front of the yarn, behind the yarn and pull it through; there's two. In front of the yarn, behind the yarn and pull it through; there's three. Now we're going to connect it to the first stitch by our slip knot. You want to put your hook through that first stitch, pull the yarn through the first loop and pull it through the second loop. Now you've chain stitched in a circle. I'll show you that one more time. Pull all of your stitches out. Get a good grip on your yarn. One, two, three chain stitches and then put your hook through the first stitch and do a single crochet to connect it. Now you're on your way to crocheting in a spiral and in the next clip I'll show you how to single crochet in a spiral to really start your beanie."
