" Hi I'm David Cantieni on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to be sharing with you some useful techniques for practicing the Irish style flute. We are going to continue with is tone exercises and these are exercise that I developed over several years of working on the flute and teaching. I like to point out that yogi bear had said you can see a lot by looking and it is also true by playing music. You can hear a lot by listening. So I recommend to listen at all times and just pay attention to the what you are doing. First again relaxation is the name of the game and you want to use your whole lungs to breathe. So one way to get in touch with that kind of breathing is to pretend that you are yawning or actually yawn you can go. You can drop you throat and put it in back of your throat just like your just exactly like a yawn. Then with that drop throat and open face. Just see how it feels. A lot of playing music is physical and just remember that. Another part of this is to use your diaphragm and your back for breathing. If you might realize there is a lot of muscles involve with breathing and to actually feel that I recommend trying a cough. Or a laugh. If you are laughing and paying attention to that you'll find that you'll feel muscles in the back, you'll feel muscles in your belly, you'll feel chest muscles and even though the flute does not take a lot of pressure you'll want to be able to breathe with all of those muscles. So ...... just let it all hang out when it comes to this. See what happens and then when you go to make a sound you can make a big open beautiful note."
