" Hi my name is David Cantieni and on behalf of Expert Village I'd like to share with you some techniques for learning Irish tunes by ear. Well here is a simple reel which I would take apart for you and you can see how it is constructed. This is called Green Gates and it starts and it is also a G tune. Flute players love G tunes for some reason in particular, that seems to be a flute key. This one starts with an arpeggio. I'll play for you actually I would play you the A part. Now would take it apart. It starts without an arpeggio and then we add the E and I usually put a little you hear that little wiggle. So two of those once you get the first one you can do the second one and now you got a jumpy part alright. That would be two fingers here and down so you might just practice that jump and or you can put on a whole role and a little triplet. Let see I can put it in context now. Another arpeggio type thing is you have a triplet which you can leave out if you are not up to it right now. That is one of the great things about these tunes you can simplified them. Like that. Now we would do the second half. Of course you recognize that. Here we go. So we have these little wiggles. So it is sort of center on here. So once more."
