Using Software for Film Editing in Indie Filmmaking

"Hello I’m Corey Turner here on ExpertVillage.com and today we’re talking about low budget moving making. Okay we finished our movie; everything is on hundreds of these little DVD tapes and ready to go into post. So be prepared to spend countless hours, nights, days, and months in front of your computer doing your editing. If you’re able to do your editing yourself, that’s great you’re going to be able to bring in the footage, it also helps you know that you know what you shot, you know the angles you took, you know the order you took them all in, so you’re going to be able to put it in and edit it. If you have somebody else that knows the editing system, it’s not bad to have them go ahead and bring in all of your footage and you can go back in later and kind of piece it together. Possibly let them put together a rough and if you are like me, I had to do the editing myself the first time so I sat in front of the camera and did it all. Now what I decided to do as opposed to storing all of this footage on my hard drive, I bought an external hard drive and you can buy those that range anywhere from 40 gigs up to 300 gigs, they can get kind of pricy and you might spend anywhere from a $100 to $2-300 for them. But the good thing is you can store all of your data on there and be able to move that from computer to computer, you can also take that once you’ve rendered and finished your product, you can take that some where else if someone has a good DVD burner then you’re able to export and also take it if you’re having it manufactured or pressed.
