"On behalf of Expert Village my name is Bill Bassett. I'm here to tell you about how to play the pedal steel guitar. Probably the type of music most often associated with the pedal steel guitar is commercial country music. All of the great country singers have had some great pedal steel players on recording sessions with them. Among them Pete Grank and Loyd Greene, Paul Franklin and of course Buddy Emmonds. There's a whole world of steel guitar music out there. There's a tremendous amount of steel guitar jazz. There are some wonderful players who specialize in that. Of course at the top of the list is Buddy Emmonds, but there's a whole bunch of them out there all around the world who make wonderful Jazz music. There's a whole new phenomenon over the last few years. There's a fellow named Robert Randolph who came bursting on the scene with a very high energy, Gospel based rock and roll. Robert Randolph and the family band, and his Cds are available. He's often seen on the tonight show and he's getting alot more national exposure. Very high energy, Very exciting rock and roll and Gospel. It's all sort of Gospel based. He does phenomenal things from sounding like Jimmy Hendrix to straight ahead country music on the steel guitar as well. There's a whole range of types and styles to be heard, and played and experimented with for the pedal steel. Here's a standard country shuffle that's a common type of steel guitar music. "
