Video: Pressing a Photography Print

The first step you want to do when you're using a press is you just open it up like this. Pretty simple forward motion, press opens up. The next step that you want to do is I use two pieces of acid-free museum board and I put my print face-up in there and I take piece of the museum board. And this is where it becomes, you really want to pay attention to what you're doing, especially if you work in a group darkroom, or a darkroom that other people use. I always want to make sure that this board is clean. There's no sand or hair, because if it's not, that's essentially going to get pressed into your print and that's not something you want to do. And I slide this board in, and I make sure it's covering. The other part about when you're flattening a print in a press is to make sure that the corners of the print don't fold over on themselves. So what I do is I make sure I don't hear any crackling noises or any print-folding-up-on-itself noises. I take it, and I press it down. That simple. Should be in the press for about two minutes.
