One technique of fine tuning your prints, or making your prints better, is a technique called "burning and dodging". And I know when I first started getting into the darkroom, I just could not even understand how this worked. But after a little while I understood it, and it really makes your prints so much better. In this image you can see this woman's face is just too dark again. Now here, when I made the print, at the same time, I took my little burning tool, a little dodging tool is actually what this is, and I went in there, and very slowly, as the exposure was going on, I moved this tool. Obviously it's under the enlarger, and I move very quick increments, second, half second. You can't leave it there too long, because I'll see the outline of my dodging tool. They sell these in the store, you can buy them or you can make them. I enjoy getting coat hangers, soldering wire, and making them, and you'll see how it will make your print look much better.
