Tips for Halloween Costume Safety

"Hello, my name is Matt Cail on behalf of expertvillage.com, I'm here today to talk about trick or treating safety. The next thing about masks to keep in mind is how they can impede eye sight. Some masks have very, very narrow eye holes. What this does is limit your range of vision. That may not matter as much at a party, but if you have a child walking out at night in traffic, that can be a serious safety hazard. So it's good whenever you're selecting a mask or looking at the mask your child plans to wear, to look at how the mask eye hole is going to effect the range of vision. You might help to see them wear the mask and run around a little bit to see if they start having trouble taking corners or even worse yet running into things. Now, if you find that a mask has very narrow eye holes, there's a couple of things you can do besides making your child put it back of course, one of the easiest is basically by taking a pair of scissors, you can go around and slightly enlarge the eye holes. I've seen this done a couple of times where you'll bring the eyes out further, a little bit closer to the tempo. What this does is it will allow for a wider range of vision so that children will not be going around corners blind and they'll be able to be more aware of their surroundings which is really good for them and also can really help with breathing too."
