Jacking a Vehicle & Placing Jack Stands

"In this clip we are going to talk about the proper service procedure for removing and replacing a rear axle U joint on a Ford Explorer. In this step we are going to talk about the proper jacking procedure in order to get the vehicle up so we can service our rear axle U joint. What I have is my heavy duty floor jack, so slide that underneath the vehicle. I am aiming for the center of gravity and it's going to be right in the center of the rear differential. Before you jack the vehicle up, you are going to want to take a block of wood or a brick and chock the front wheel so it doesn't want to roll away on you. Alright, we've got the vehicle high enough that you can fit under it and work on it comfortably. You want to take your jack stands and slide them up right onto the rear axle shaft housing. One there and one for the other side. Just like so. Once you have your jack stands placed you can go ahead a let the tension off the floor jack so it settles down onto the cuffs on your jack stands. You are going to release the tension very slowly so it settles down gently. You don't want to twist it and let it off right away. It may cause damage to the vehicle or your jack. That is the proper service procedure for jacking up your vehicle and setting it down on your jack stands."
