on 5/10/2009 im sorry buddy but ive been playing bass for 12 years and i like to bounce off. the double thumb is a possibility except its usefullness is over embellished in your words here... ive never been to a show but im pretty sure flea would opt for a four finger alternation on octaves over one thumb going back and forth... this technique is really insignificant and only reaches full potential in, like mr shepard so affectionatly reminds me again and again, Victor wootens awesome bass solo music, except when it boils down to it, wooten is a fine player but the composition of his solo songs is just that, simple chord pregressions only jazzed up by his bass technique and volume knob. no actual bass player puts this technique into a line UNLESS its a solo, and even then, i doubt mr shepards rendition would be adequately sub-par. you can do what he did here, by only slaping once... please dont call yourself proffessional mr shepard. the rest of us players know the difference. also if you are going to take wootens words, you might as well try the piece of music he plays afterwards. you know what im talkin about...

"My name is Carl Shepard, professional bass instructor, here to talk about slap techniques with you. One slap technique that a lot of bass players try to master but have somewhat of a challenge with is the double thumb technique and what that means is when you slap, you want your thumb to go through but you don’t want it to bounce off. If you are bouncing off then there is a motion that you can lose in that and that is coming back up with your thumb. So if you slap and your finger goes through the string instead of bouncing off then you can come back up, and this is used by a lot of, you know, popular bass players like Victor Wooten and Flea and different people like that."
