Hi, this is Nicholas Iarocci, The Home Source Guy, president and owner of Source Development, Inc., a residential and commercial construction company in Garnerville, New York and this is how to measure for a dishwasher. Now you are dealing with a lot of standard dimensions in most cases, the distance between the counter, the counter excuse me and the floor is usually 34 and 1/2 inches, 36 complete with the counter but that's not what you are interested in. The rough opening normally applies to the distance required for the dishwasher so in this case our rough opening is 24 inches which is very typical on American units. On some Europeans, some European units they would vary by about 3/8ths or 5/8ths of an inch. They are usually 23 and 5/8ths or 23 and 1/2 and you could get that information on the specs and if that were the case you could modify the frame to infill or you know, you could leave the gap. It's a little bit excessive on both sides but it will also fill. The depth of kitchen cabinets are usually standard at 24 inches deep. So one other concern I wanted to bring up would be the height in relation to replacing a dishwasher. If you had a situation where tiles were installed after or over an existing floor after the dishwasher was in, you have a situation where it almost locks in your dishwasher. One helpful hint is when you manage to get the dishwasher out and you might have to adjust the legs and leave a little bit of room gapping under your dishwasher. When you manage to get it out, I would infill it with a sheet of plywood so that it's flush with the existing floor. So when you install your new unit, it's just a matter of sliding it in and out. So one last dimension I would like to discuss is one that's required for the hose drain, for the dishwasher drain and the supply tube. It's usually located in the back bottom rear corner of the unit. This was how to measure for a dishwasher installation.
