Hi, my name is Abbeth. I'm an Artist out of Portland, Maine and I'm going to show you how to capture sunlight using paint. So, first I'm going to have you paint just a simple outdoor scene. Start out with some green for the ground, thin it out with turpentine and brush it down onto the page with a kind of full washy brush like this one. Once you've put down the ground, you can take your blue and paint your sky. Then, I'm going to have you take a finer brush and add a few little trees to this outdoor scene. You can just draw some simple trees with the vertical stem and a few brush strokes for the leaves. And then, you're going to put your brushes in the turpentine to keep them from getting to dry out and you're going to leave your paint for a couple of hours to let it dry. It takes the oil paint a long time to dry, but if you put it down thin enough, it should be pretty dry in a couple of hours. So, we're going to leave for a bit and wait for that paint to dry. So, now that your paint is dry, you're ready to put down a sun and just show the effect that sun has on this landscape that you painted. Take a clean dry brush and grab some yellow paint and just draw or paint a shape in the sky, a circular shape for the sun. And then, grab a little bit more paint and whatever side of the page your sun is on, you want to draw the way that the light would be hitting the trees coming down from that angle. So, I'm just going to add a little bit of yellow highlights on the trees where the sun would be hitting them. You can even just add a few highlights on the grass and you're all set. My name is Abbeth and I just showed you how to paint a sunny sky.
