Hi, my name is Patricia. I'm an artist and I'm going to show you how to draw folds in dresses. So, let's get our model set up here. Let's do two, we'll do two types of folds in dresses. Alright so let's do a blue dress to begin and we are going to make it, actually let's give her big puffy sleeves. There we go. Alright and then the dress itself, we'll do an empire waist and a long flowy dress. And here are the folds. Now when you illustrate the folds, basically you're just going to do lines and then you'll do a lot of shading as well and here's this. Notice how I have the fold here and I do a line here and a line here to show this is in the front and then you can shade down here because it's further away from the viewer. And then again, and with a pencil you're going to make it more of a gradual shading if you will. Here with a pen it's more trite but it conveys the idea. So here again, and you want to do your lines in the direction of the fold, give it the feel of which way the dress is hanging. So here, are some ways to do folds, again up here and then on the front you might have some folds and then let's see some folds in the huge puffy sleeves. There's usually always folds in puffy sleeves so just again do the lines and you can shade them as well. Okay and then for the second one we're going to do more of a waist fold. Let's see here, let's do a yellow dress and we're going to do the waist and she's going to have a big flower here and again the dress is hanging down. Now you might have a fold cinching it over and notice how you know, you can have, this is just detailing in the dress. But you're just going to do lines to convey the folding. Let me get one more you know I want to show you how to shade this a little bit. You're going to have the fold, there we go, just do it in the direction that the dress is designed and you're going to do a little shading in here and it will convey it. And you might, you know, I did a straight bottom but if this is flowing fabric, you're going to let it flow. So there you go, folds in dresses. Enjoy.
