Creating your own homemade red, white and blue centerpieces is a sure way to reap praises from your family and guests. Centerpieces are expensive, yet people tend to tire of them quickly or if it matches a theme for a party, it may only be useful for one occasion. It does not take a lot of time or money to create your own one-of-a-kind centerpieces, and often you can use supplies you already have in your home.
Purchase red, white and blue carnations. It will take approximately 50 carnations to decorate one 3-inch sphere of floral foam. Soak the sphere in cool water until it is thoroughly saturated. Cut your carnations so that the stem below the calyx is approximately 1 inch in length. Poke the carnations into the floral foam. Cover the entire surface except for a bald spot on the bottom. This will allow it to get additional moisture if you want the floral balls to last for a few days. Place the decorated floral ball into a saucer of water to display it as your centerpiece.
Trifle Bowl Centerpiece
Fill a clear trifle bowl or a large glass bowl with solid red, white and blue Christmas ornaments. This will create an inexpensive patriotic centerpiece that is free if you already have all the supplies. If you have only one or two of the colors, ask friends and relatives to let you borrow other colors.
Create an inexpensive plastic utensil holder to act as your holiday centerpiece. Cover an empty cereal box with white construction paper. Use colored markers to make it look like an American flag. Use empty toilet paper rolls or cut a paper towel roll into three different rolls. Cover these rolls on the outside with red, white or blue construction paper. You can add star stickers on the outside of the rolls to make it look more patriotic. Glue the individual rolls onto one side of the cereal box so that they stand up. Place plastic spoons, knives and forks into each roll. Decorate the sides and top of the box with colorful streamers or other small festive patriotic decorations.
You can make a beautiful patriotic centerpiece using red delicious apples. Select a white plate or shallow bowl to use as a base for your centerpiece. Stack the red apples on top of each other to create a bit of height. Insert silk or fresh blue hydrangea or other blue flowers in between the apples. You can also stick miniature American flags into the display.
