Ideas for Broom Closets

Save

If your broom or cleaning closet is disorganized and you have a difficult time locating the cleaning tools and solutions you need, then you may want to set up a system that will make everyday chores easier for you. Sometimes a broom closet just needs a little rearranging, while other times there are easy fixes you can make to the inside of the closet to better set up your mops, brooms and supplies.

Install Hooks

  • Install hooks and wall clips to the inside walls of your broom closet and to the inside door of your broom closet. "Hooks and clips keep mops and brooms tidy and tools at hand," advises Martha Stewart's website. You can create both a useful setup and an aesthetic appeal by screwing wall hooks and "spring-loaded clips" in rows along your wall and closet door. Hang one item at a time to make sure you have enough room for cleaning tools between the hooks.

Use Buckets

  • Buy plastics buckets in different colors to store cleaning products. In a red bucket, place wood furniture spray and soft, clean cloths. In a blue bucket, place clean mop heads and floor cleaner. In a green bucket, place car washing sponges and car wash solution. Line the buckets on your broom closet floor for handy retrieval.

Hang Laundry Bags

  • Hang cloth or mesh laundry bags---which usually are designed for washing lingerie---on the inside of the door. One can be used for clean cloths for dusting and washing. Another can be used for dirty rags. After the bags are full, you can simply lift them from the hooks on the door, and toss them into the washing machine.

Broom Bar

  • Install a "broom bar," a piece of wood, metal or plastic made specifically to hold the handles of brooms and mops. A broom bar allows you to "pop in" and "pop out" a broom whenever you need it. Install on the wall of your broom closet or on the door.
