Ideas for Halloween Costumes for a Pair

Costume ideas for couples or pairs can be as simple or as elaborate as your creativity allows. Whether you are dressing up with your best friend, your spouse or your child, there is certain to be a design that suits your needs. Many can be put together with minimal sewing or craft expertise.

Simple Costume Ideas

  • Dress as Ken and Barbie at your next Halloween party, using items you probably already have in your closet or find at the thrift store. Ken can dress in a tuxedo. Take a women's short hair wig, picked up at a secondhand store, and spray it with shellac to give it a plastic look. Apply hideous amounts of foundation for the perfect plastic man look. Barbie can be achieved with false eyelashes, shimmery eyeshadow, a long blond wig and stiletto heels. Make sure the handbag and shoes match, and don a large pearl bracelet, earrings and necklace.

Hippies are fun to dress as for those limited budgets. Tie-dye shirts paired with bell bottom jeans make up the larger part of the costume. Pull out those stacks or clunky clogs, and wear a colorful headband you can fashion from a discarded tie. Top it off with matching peace-sign jewelry. Another idea is to wear long broomstick skirts and leather sandals.

Blasts From Your Past

  • Brave married couples can recycle their wedding attire, turning them into nostalgic Halloween costumes. If the thought of risking spills or damage to your wedding gown doesn't suit you, there are other blasts from the past that you can use in your costume ideas. For those of you who can still fit into your sports jerseys or cheerleading outfits, you and your date can dress as high school jocks.

Detailed Ideas

  • These ideas require more time, creativity and money, but are well worth it if you have the skills and funds. Take two large cardboard television boxes, and cut arm and neck holes in the tops and sides. Cover them in bright plush, used in making stuffed animals. Hot glue large black dots on the sides and top. Spray a thin chain with glitter, and attach one end to each of the boxes. Your costume of fuzzy dice is sure to be a hit at any party.

A mother and child can dress as Snow White and one of the dwarfs. You probably will have to buy or rent the costumes. Let your child pick out his favorite dwarf to join you at a school costume party or night of trick or treating. Another pair of costumes sure to garner hours of enjoyment are the Easter rabbit and the egg. Again, unless you are a seamstress you will probably have to buy or rent these costumes.
