Wine glasses, even the old or ugly one, can be revamped in a variety of ways. Give your wine glasses new life by using them in craft projects. These glasses are able to be used to create a variety of centerpieces or you could add details to make them just like new again.
Nothing sets the mood for the wedding like candlelight. Create a lamp using an inexpensive wine glass and a tea light candle. Start your lampshade by cutting a sheet of vellum shaped like a rounded-base trapezoid. Use hot glue to create the lampshade's shape. For a more decorative look, glue ribbons or sequins onto the shade, or poke holes in the vellum with a needle. Place a tea candle into the wine glass and light it. Place the vellum lampshade on the top of the wineglass for a muted, mood-setting light.
Floating Candle Centerpieces
Use an oversized wine glass to create inexpensive and colorful centerpieces. Cover the base of the wine glass in water-diluted glue and cover the glue with colored glitter. Once the glue has dried, tap off the excess glitter. Wrap a velvet ribbon in a complementing around the stem of the wine glass. Fill the glass with water or scented oil before adding one or two floating candles. For the finishing touch, glue small sequins or paper scrapbooking flowers to the outside of the glass. Place small rhinestones and flower petals on the table around the base of the wine glass.
To give your old, inexpensive or ugly wine glasses a new look, add a new design to the outside. Use glass paint to create a set of matching, colorful wine glasses. Design your pattern before painting it on. If you mess up, use a sponge or wet paper towel to remove the flaw or even the whole design. Another method of personalizing your wine glasses is to engrave them. Use a hand engraving tool to create personalized monograms and designs on the surface of your glass. Or for an even cheaper option, etch an image into the glass with a stencil and an etching medium.
Create a festive ornament for the holidays using oversized wine glasses. Using miniature glass bulbs, fill the wine glass so that the surface is flat. Wrap the stems of the glasses in festive velvet ribbon. Create a base by gluing three identical wine glasses onto a large, metallic platter. Place another wine glass on top of the three wine glasses, so that it covers the gap where they meet. For additional aesthetic appeal, add poinsettia blooms, large glass bulbs and holly leaves on the platter and in the gaps formed by the wine glasses.
