Easy Oven Cleaning Tips

Save

Rather than let your oven become a dumping ground for stains and spills that cause you seemingly endless labor to remove, learn some tips and tricks for easy oven cleaning. Once you know the shortcuts to easy oven cleaning, you can avoid spending countless hours on your dirty appliance.

Regular Maintenance

  • After every use of your oven, you can wipe it out to remove food residue or soot that may have accumulated. A cloth soaked in soapy water or equal parts of water and white vinegar will do the trick. All you have to do is wait until the oven completely cools after use and then wipe down the inside racks and walls.

Cleaning Up Spills

  • Spills happen, but that doesn't mean you should let them linger in your oven any longer than necessary. You can combine 1 part ground cinnamon with 6 parts table salt to soak up a fresh spill and take away the odor. After the oven cools, you can loosen the mess with a spatula and wipe everything away with a damp cloth. If you don't catch the stain right away, you can place a vinegar-soaked cloth over the stain for 3 to 4 hours and then wipe away the residue.

Oven Racks

  • Sometimes oven racks suffer spills and end up with baked on residue that seems impossible to clean. Instead of scrubbing at the stains, you can remove the racks from the oven and take them outside. After you give them a good coating of spray-on oven cleaner, you can close them up in garbage bags overnight. The next day, all that's needed is a quick soap and water treatment.

Oven Window

  • The window of your oven may appear mottled with brownish stains. You can make a baking soda paste out of 3 parts water and 1 part baking soda. After you coat the inside of the oven window with the paste, allow it stay on until it dries. Then, you can scrub it away with a wet sponge. Once the window is dry, the brown spots should be gone. If the window still looks dirty, you can use glass cleaner to make it shine.
