Fun Egg Games

Fun Egg Games thumbnail
An egg can play a part in several fun games.

For your next Easter party, kids can play indoor and outdoor games with the eggs they decorate or receive in their baskets. Raw, hard-boiled or plastic eggs lend themselves to a variety of games. A traditional easter egg hunt, egg toss, egg pinata, or egg bowling are just a few of the options. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Egg Race

    • Collect hard-boiled easter eggs (or raw eggs if you dare) and give one metal spoon to each player. Designate a "race track" in the yard with a starting and finishing line. Line the children up at the starting line, and have each of them balance the egg on his spoon. The goal is to be first to run or walk to the finish line with the egg still on the spoon.

    Egg Drop

    • The egg drop can be used with raw, hard-boiled, or empty plastic eggs. Collect items to "protect" the egg with like cotton balls, construction paper, tape, glue, pipe cleaners, paper towel tubes and craft foam. Give the kids 30 seconds to use these items to wrap their egg. Find a height of about two stories to perform the "drop" and cover the ground below with plastic. Have each kid drop her protected egg. The winner is the one whose egg ends up with the least amount of damage.

    Egg Treasure Hunt

    • This is a spin-off from the traditional easter egg hunt. First, hide a treasure such as a full easter basket. Write "clues" on folded pieces of paper that would lead a child to the treasure, and stick these clues inside plastic eggs. These clues should be easy or tough based on the ages of the prospective hunters. Place these eggs around the house and yard. The kids have to look for those eggs, then pull together the clues to find the treasure.

    Egg Pinata

    • The egg pinata game can be a lot of fun for Easter parties. Fill up several plastic bags with candy, jelly beans, plastic eggs and small toys. Secure the plastic bags to a hook or awning in an area that leaves enough space for the kids to swing their bat. Blindfold each child one at a time, give him a bat, and spin him three times. The children swing away until one of them strikes the pinata and spills the goodies.

    Egg Bowling

    • Use sidewalk chalk to mark a bowling lane on the patio or sidewalk. Set up a lightweight item like a stuffed bunny on one end. Give the children plastic eggs (filled with candy or coins to give them weight) to roll down the lane to hit the stuffed bunny. Give each child a certain amount of turns to knock down the bunny. Give a prize to the winner.

    Egg Toss

    • Separate the participants into groups of two. Give each pair raw or decorated eggs, then have them stand an arms-length apart and toss the egg to the other person. After each catch, each partner moves back a couple of feet and tosses again. The pair that gets the furthest apart without dropping their egg wins.
