NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) is a popular racing series in America. In 2004, Nextel became the official sponsor of the Sprint cup series, and it was renamed the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. NASCAR maintains strict regulations on the types of cars, engines and specifications they may have. The specs differ slightly from year to year. All cars must adhere to the same engine specifications.

Engine

  • NASCAR engines are Pushrod V8s with 5.86L (5,860 cubic cm or 358 cubic inches).

Transmission

  • The transmission is a four-speed manual.

Performance

  • The engine outputs 865 horsepower (645 Kilowatts) unrestricted and 445 horsepower (332 Kilowatts) with the restrictor plate (introduced in 2007).

Fuel

  • The fuel capacity is 17.75 gal. (or 67L). It is delivered through a naturally aspirated carburation system. The fuel is supplied by Sunoco; it is 92 MON, 98 AKI and 104 RON unleaded. The carburetor is a four-barrel that handles 750 to 830 cubic feet per minute (or 354 to 392 liters per second.)
