How to Adjust a GE TrueTemp Oven Sensor

Lisa Wampler

The GE TrueTemp oven sensor acts as the oven's thermostat. At times, you must calibrate the sensor to ensure your oven heats at the proper temperature. Otherwise, you could undercook or even overcook your food in the oven. Fortunately, GE designed the sensor for servicing so you will not require the assistance of a GE certified technician to complete the adjustment.

  1. Place an oven safe thermometer in the oven on the center rack.

  2. Place the oven on "Bake" and heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. When fully heated, the oven will indicate it reached the desired temperature by beeping.

  3. Remove the thermometer from the oven. Use oven mitts to prevent burning yourself.

  4. Determine the difference in the thermometer's reading and the temperature you set on the oven. For example, if the thermometer displays 390 degrees Fahrenheit, the oven is 10 degrees cooler than it should be.

  5. Press the "Bake" and "Broil" keys at the same time until the display screen displays "SF."

  6. Press the "Bake" button a second time and a two-digit number will display on the screen.

  7. Press the "+" button to increase the actual temperature of the oven if the oven reached a lower temperature than it should have. Press the "-" button to decrease the temperature of the oven of the temperature of the oven reached a higher temperature than it should have.

  8. Press the "Start/On" button to save your settings.
