HB Smith gas-fired water furnaces, or boilers, are manufactured with cast-iron to ensure durability and feature power and direct venting to provide energy-efficient operation. HB Smith's residential gas-fired boilers comply with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards for safety, and their efficiency is independently rated by the Hydronics Institute Division of GAMA. HB Smith offers three series of boilers in different sizes and offering a range of features.
The GB100 atmospheric-vented hot water gas-fired boiler is available in five sizes, ranging from 40 to 125 MBH. This measurement refers to the thousands of BTUs the unit can burn per hour. The GB100 boiler features an internal draft diverter, enabling you to vent combustion gas directly outside. Another power vented gas-fired boiler, the GV100, features a power vent that carries flue gases directly outside and is available in five sizes, ranging from 40 to 125 MBH. Yet another model, the GS110, is a sealed combustion boiler that vents outdoors but uses only outside air for combustion to increase efficiency. Sizes of this HB Smith boiler range from 70 to 210 MBH. HB Smith’s most simplistic and easy-to-operate models, the GB200 and GB250 gas-fired hot water boilers, are available in 10 sizes, ranging from 85 to 400 MBH.
The efficiency of all HB Smith boilers are rated above 80 percent AFUE, which measures boiler efficiency in terms of fuel consumption over the course of a year. AFUE is measured by the ratio of heat output compared to the total energy consumed. In terms of HB Smith furnaces, this means that more than 80 percent of the gas energy consumed is converted to heat, while 20 percent or less escapes up the chimney. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, this makes HB Smith boilers mid- to high-efficiency heating systems.
Conventional boilers heat up the chimney to create a natural draft that carries away combustion gases. The HB Smith GV100 gas-fired boilers use a power-vented system that includes an induced draft blower to vent gases directly up the chimney or through a wall to make venting safe and efficient with or without a heated chimney. The GS110 series boilers vent directly outdoors, using only outside air for combustion. According to HB Smith, this type of venting increases the efficiency of the boiler.
The cast iron construction of HB Smith's gas-fired hot water boilers or furnaces ensures a durable heating appliance. The company backs the GB100, GV100 and GS110 series boilers with a limited lifetime warranty covering the cast iron sections of the boiler. The lifetime warranty covers the cast-iron boiler sections only under normal operating conditions and as long as your boiler is installed by a licensed technician. Other parts such as grates and auxiliary equipment may not be included in this warranty, even if they're also made of cast iron. If you alter your boiler in any way or haven't properly maintained with yearly inspections and service conducted by a licensed technician, the warranty on your boiler may be considered void by the manufacturer. HB Smith’s GB200 and GB250 boilers are backed by a 10-year limited warranty only.
