Telescopic Downdraft Venting Options
A telescoping downdraft vent is an alternative to range hood installation over a cook-top. Counter cook-top stoves, such as gas sealed burners and electric smooth-tops, have telescoping vent hoods installed to remove heat, food odors, moisture and grease that is emitted during the cooking process. A telescoping downdraft vent raises up over the cook-top surface and retracts back down into the counter for storage. The downdraft vent removes vapors and smoke from the cooking area and safely sends it outside. Does this Spark an idea?

Installation
-
The downdraft system has a blower, a fan motor and duct work that is installed beneath the cook-top cabinet and the counter-top. Cook-tops consist of the top burners of stoves that are installed in a counter-top; they are not attached to an oven. These types of stoves require a telescoping downdraft ventilation system to be used safely and prevent kitchen fires. They can be installed in a cabinet that rests against a wall, or in an island or peninsula. The back of the counter-top of the kitchen island can be extended or deep enough to allow for seating on the opposite end of the cook-top.
Side-to-Side
-
During installation, the telescoping downdraft vent can have the blower motor mounting plate adjusted. There are slots at the top of the mounting plate that allow you to move the blower to the right or to the left to line up the vent discharge of the blower to the ducts that lead out of the house.

Discharge Direction
-
The downdraft vent blower motor assembly may come shipped with the discharge chute or outlet pointing straight down. You have the option of moving it to accommodate your vents. The blower can be removed and rotated 90 degrees to allow for the blower discharge chute to face the right or left side of the cabinet.
Optional Kits
-
Cabinet floor blower and motor assembly kits allow you to install the motor for the blower fan of the vent beneath the floor or bottom of the cabinet. An outdoor cover accessory kit allows you to install the blower and motor assembly on an outside wall -- this is called a remote installation. The vent goes through the bottom of the cabinet, under the kitchen floor, and out of the house.
