The Nissan Pathfinder was one of the original midsize SUVs in the U.S. when it debuted in the 1987 model year. It used the same platform as the compact Nissan pickup. In 1996, Nissan release the long-overdue, second-generation Pathfinder, which moved from the old, body-on-frame construction to unibody. The engine compartment in the 1997 Pathfinder wass packed a little tight, thanks to its 3.3-liter V-6 and all of its wiring, so finding the oil dipstick can be a little tricky.
Oil Dipstick Location
Open the hood and look on the rear, driver side of the engine -- between the engine and the brake master cylinder. The oil dipstick is in this location and its bright yellow handle helps it stand out from all of the other components in that area.
