    Things You'll Need

    • Hose Clamps
    • Washing Machine Garden Hoses
    • Washing Machines
    • Drain Hoses
      • 1

Be sure that the cord to the washer will reach the outlet. If it doesn't, call a licensed electrician to move the outlet or install a longer cord.

      • 2

Check to make sure the drain hose will reach the drainpipe. If it's too short, buy a new one made by the manufacturer.

      • 3

Turn off the breaker feeding the washer outlet.

      • 4

Be sure that the floor is clean and dry.

      • 5

Fasten the drain hose to the washer with a hose clamp. Be sure not to tighten it too much or you might strip the screw.

      • 6

Attach the water hoses to the washer. The hot and cold on the taps and on the washer are usually clearly marked. Red indicates hot; blue indicates cold.

      • 7

Plug the washing machine in, and move it into place placing the drain hose in the drainpipe when you can reach it.

      • 8

Push the washer the rest of the way into the space, being careful not to crimp the hoses.

      • 9

Leave about an inch and a half of space around the washer to allow room for it to vibrate.

      • 10

        Turn the water faucets on.

      • 11

        Turn the breaker back on.

      • 12

Run a cycle without clothes or detergent before you use the machine to clear the water pipes and make sure the drainage is adequate.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Place your owner's manual in a plastic bag, and tape the bag to the side of the washer.

    • Never use an extension cord with a washing machine. The danger of electrocution is high.

Please make sure that both ends of the hoses have a gasket in them or they will leak and spray all over the house.
