How to Make a Pung in Mah Jongg

Form a three-of-a-kind set to make a mah jongg pung.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• 4 Chairs
• Card Tables
• Pencils
• Mah Jongg
• Mah Jongg Tiles
• Scoring Pads

1. Declare a pung when you have a pair of identical tiles in your hand and draw a third one, or any time you see the third tile discarded by another player. It doesn't have to be your turn in the case of a discard.
2. Lay the pung face up on the table in front of you.
3. Discard a tile, because you just added one to your hand.
4. Continue play to the right of the player who declared the pung.
5. If two players want the same tile to complete a pung, the player nearest the right of the person who discarded the tile may have it.

Tips & Warnings

• Remember that a tile is only available as long as it's not dead. Tiles are dead when a new discard is added.
