How to Extract Dye From Onion Skins

For a brilliant gold or yellow color, turn to the common onion for a natural source.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old Nylon Stockings
  • Onions
  • Stockpots
  • Onions
  1. Step 1

    Peel the skins from several yellow onions.

  2. Step 2

    Lay them out on a cookie sheet or tray to dry in a place with good air circulation.

  3. Step 3

    Put the skins in a nylon stocking and tie the top shut.

  4. Step 4

    Boil them in a stockpot with 2 quarts of water for 15 to 20 minutes.

  5. Step 5

    Remove the stocking.
