How to Adjust a Foundation for a Turntable

Make sure your turntable is level before lowering the needle.

Are your vinyl records mysteriously skipping during playback? Do your mint-condition albums sound warped and damaged? The solution to such puzzling problems may be simpler than you think. Before powering on your turntable, always make sure it is level. Some turntables have adjustable feet that allow you to alter the height of each corner. Folded paper or cardboard can be used to level turntables without adjustable feet.

Things You'll Need

• Bubble level
• Card stock

Instructions

1. Remove the rubber platter from the turntable.

2. Set the bubble level on the surface of the turntable to determine which side needs to be raised or lowered.

3. Gently lift the corner of the turntable and rotate the foot counterclockwise to increase height. Rotate the foot clockwise to decrease the height. If your turntable does not have adjustable feet, fold a piece of card stock and place it under the corner of the turntable. Add or remove sheets of card stock until the turntable is level.

4. Remove the level from the turntable and set the rubber platter back into place.
