There are many different ways of applying henna for mehndi tattoos. Some artists paint the henna paste onto the skin with a toothpick, while others spread the paste over a stencil. But for the greatest degree of control over the lines of your henna tattoos, make your own mehndi tubes. By rolling the tubes tightly, you can make very thin henna lines. Mixing your own henna paste and using handmade tubes allows you to experiment with line weight.
Step 1
Cut out a 10-by-10-inch square of Mylar gift wrap. Cut diagonally across the square to make two triangles. Use one triangle to roll a cone.

Lay the triangle so the short end points downward.
Step 3
Hold the middle of the top side of the triangle with the index finger of your non-dominant hand. This will be the center of your cone.
Step 4
Lift the corner closest to your dominant hand and begin to roll it toward your index finger, making a cone shape.
Step 5
Roll the Mylar all the way across. When you get past the center of the cone, lift up the index finger of your non-dominant hand and use it to pinch the tip of the cone. This keeps the point from becoming too loose.
Step 6
Stick a horizontal piece of tape just above the tip of the cone, on the outside of the Mylar. Run another piece of tape up the seam.
Step 7
Fill the cone halfway with henna paste. Fold the top of the cone in on itself and tape it closed.
Step 8
Fold the top of the cone over tightly against the henna paste. Hold the folded end between your fingers and apply gentle pressure to squeeze the henna downward through the cone. If the tip is too tight, clip off the end with nail clippers until you achieve the line weight you want.
