How to Fix Fido Reception

Fido is a Canadian company that provides cellular service across the country. They provide service to the same kinds of phones found in the U.S., including the iPhone. If you are experiencing spotty service or dropped calls, there are measures you can take to improve the reception of the phone. This doesn't require disassembly of the phone.

  • Recharge your phone battery. Sometimes a low battery can affect signal strength and cause poor reception.

  • Move outside if you are deep inside a building. Terrain can effect signal strength, so if you are outside, try positioning yourself away from buildings, such as moving to an intersection. The clearer the line of sight to the cell signal tower, the stronger your cell signal will be.

  • Move away from all electronic devices that are powered on. Computers and running microwaves, for example, can decrease signal strength and cause poor reception.

  • Check your antenna. On some model Fido phones, the antenna is retractable or screws on to the phone. Fully retract the antenna or, if the antenna is loose on the phone, screw it on tightly.

  • Purchase an antenna booster if you are still experiencing reception problems. These boosters can be found at most cellular supply stores and plug directly into the data port on your phone. Once the booster is plugged in, signal strength will increase and reception will improve.
