How to Remove the Main Fuse Box on a Toyota 4Runner

by Ashton Daigle

If the fuses on your Toyota 4Runner in the main fuse panel panel behave erratically or if you lose functions altogether, it means you might have to remove and replace your main fuse box. There are two fuse boxes located in your 4Runner. One is a secondary fuse panel which contains a limited number of fuses that power a few accessories. The main fuse panel, however, is located in the engine compartment, on the right hand side near the battery.

Step 1

Remove both the negative and positive battery cables from your 4Runner's battery with the socket set.

Step 2

Remove the three bolts that hold the fuse box in place. One bolt is located on the right hand side of the hood frame. The other two are located at the base of the fuse box facing the engine.

Step 3

Locate the two wires that run from your positive and negative battery cable connections to the main fuse panel. Pull these off of each battery cable with your pliers.

Step 4

Lift the fuse panel up and out of the engine compartment.
