Instructions

    • 1

Use a paintbrush to spread a thin layer of acrylic gel medium onto the image side of your photocopy. Remember that the photocopied image will be reversed on the fabric once it is transferred; images with text should therefore be copied in reverse. Ensure the entire image is covered with the acrylic gel medium.

    • 2

Place the coated photocopy image-side down on the fabric where you want the image to be transferred to. Press the paper down firmly and use your hands to smooth out any air bubbles. Allow the acrylic gel medium to dry completely before proceeding; leaving the image to dry overnight is recommended.

    • 3

Use a sponge to wet the back of the paper of the photocopied image. As the water seeps into the paper, your image will begin to appear through the paper. Soak the paper completely.

    • 4

Use the sponge or your fingers to gently rub the paper off of the image. Your image, which has been transferred into the acrylic gel medium, will remain on the fabric as the paper is removed. Remove the paper completely.

    • 5

Allow the image to dry completely and check for areas that look foggy or blurry. Thin layers of paper left on the image can create this effect. Wet any areas where paper remains, and remove the paper by rubbing it gently with your fingertips.

Tips & Warnings

  • Photocopies aren't the only kind of image that can be transferred onto fabric with acrylic gel medium. Laser or inkjet prints from your home office printer can also be transferred in the same manner.
