How to Stop Cold Pipe Condensation From Dripping

A cold water pipe is at risk of condensation.

When you have cold water pipes in a warm environment, such as when the summer's heat and humidity kick in, you can end up with a condensation problem. While the pipes having some condensation on them is not a problem in itself, it can become troublesome when the condensation builds up enough to start dripping. This excess moisture can damage the area below the pipe, which can lead to mold formation in your home.

Things You'll Need

• Dehumidifier
• Towel
• Adhesive foam pipe insulation

Instructions

1. Run a dehumidifier near the cold pipe. It will help stabilize the moisture level in the air and the humidity level, which can help cut back on the pipe condensation.

2. Buy adhesive foam pipe insulation from a hardware store or home improvement center.

3. Dry off the pipe to remove all condensation using a large towel. Be sure the dehumidifier is running nearby during this process.

4. Wrap the adhesive foam pipe insulation around all areas of the pipe that are exposed, including pipe fittings. Once insulated, the dripping condensation should no longer be an issue.
