Add some whimsy to your garden with soda can wind spinner flowers. Easy to make, you can whip out several in one afternoon and decorate your garden with year-round flowers. Start saving your aluminum soda cans for yard art instead of the recycle bin and you'll be "green" and have some fun at the same time.
Things You'll Need
- Scissor or tin snips
- Aluminum soda cans
- Sharpened pencil
- Push pins
- Wooden dowels
- Steel wool
Soak and wash empty soda cans with warm soapy water so they don't attract pesky bugs.
Cut off top and bottom of cans, then cut straight line down one side to create a flat rectangle sheet.
Lay sheets inside up and draw two flower shapes with sharp pencil, one large and one smaller, on flat aluminum sheets.
Cut out flower shapes and rub edges with steel wood to smooth them out.
Stack the flower shapes colorful side forward, largest outside graduating to smallest.
Make a small hole in the center of each flower shape with push pin.
Attach to wooden dowel by with push pin through flower pieces allowing enough room to spin outer petals.
Bend and shape petals so that wind will catch and spin them.
Stick the dowels of your flower wind spinners in the soft ground of your garden or patio.
Tips & Warnings
- If you want specific colors, spray paint your flowers.
- Wear gloves while cutting aluminum to keep you from getting cut on sharp edges.
