How to Replace a Fuse on a KitchenAid Superba

KitchenAid has manufactured household appliances since the company was established in 1919. The company, which is famous for its counter-top mixers, also manufactures appliances for cooking, cleaning and refrigeration, including ranges, dishwashers and refrigerators large and small. KitchenAid Superba dishwashers have a thermal fuse that is located inside of the control panel, on the top of the door. The thermal fuse is designed to cut power to the dishwasher to prevent a fire. If the fuse blows, it must be replaced, as resetting it is not an option.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Wire cutters
  • Wire strippers
  • Micro screwdriver
  • Turn off the dishwasher breaker in your service panel.

  • Open the dishwasher door. Remove the screws at the top of the inside panel, securing the control housing to the door.

  • Close the dishwasher door, but do not latch it. Pull the control housing off of the dishwasher, being careful not to pull any wires off.

  • Cut the wires connected to the thermal fuse, no more than 1 inch from the fuse.

  • Use a screwdriver to remove the fuse from the control housing.

  • Strip approximately 1/4-inch off of the each wire. Insert each bare wire into the terminal block on the new fuse, then tighten the screws to secure.

  • Snap the new fuse onto the control housing.

  • Replace the control housing and secure using the screws through the inside panel.

  • Close the dishwasher door. Restore power to the dishwasher.
