How to Make an Origami Shield

Save

The art of origami is a paper folding technique initially established by the Japanese in the 17th century. Since then, it has been enjoyed by children and adults alike. Origami objects range in difficulty from novice to intermediate to advanced. Creating a shield using origami paper is perhaps one of the best ways for a novice to begin learning about origami. Make soldiers, houses, buildings, swords, and castles to go along with an origami sword.

Things You'll Need

  • Origami paper
  • Fold the piece of paper in half.

  • With the paper facing horizontally, fold the right corner down at the crease to make a triangle that meets the edge of the paper. Unfold the corner so that you can fold the bottom left corner upward in the same way.

  • Pinch the middle edges of the right side, tucking the edges in to make one triangle.

  • Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the left side. You will now have a square.

  • Fold the four loose pieces upward, and push them toward the middle. Situate the pieces in between each other to create a handle for the shield.
