How to Repair a Leather Flip-Flop

During the warm summer months, flip-flops keep your feet comfortable, cool and protected from the hot pavement. Leather flip-flops offer durability and style with a summer flair. Unfortunately, daily use of a leather flip-flop will leave it torn, ripped and unusable. However, with a little help from a do-it-yourself repair kit, you can repair small tears or rips and restore the look of the leather flip-flop.

Things You'll Need

  • Lint-free cloths
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Leather repair kit
  • Leather cleaner and conditioner

Dampen a lint-free cloth in rubbing alcohol and wipe the damaged area of the leather flip-flop clean. Allow the flip-flop to dry.

Open the repair compound and mix with the small spatula for several seconds. Spread the mixed repair compound over the damaged leather evenly and smoothly.

Spread the repair compound 1/2 inch out from the damaged area and let dry for one to two hours.

Rub the dried repair compound with a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol. Continue rubbing the dried compound until it is completely smooth and let dry for one to two more hours.

Paint the clear coat included in the repair kit over the dried repair compound. Several thin applications of the clear coat may be required to achieve the desired result. Let the each application of clear coat to dry before adding another coat.

Allow the leather flip-flops to dry before cleaning and conditioning them as you normally would.
