How to Draw a Noose

Save

A noose is a simple object to draw for both experienced and new artists alike. Even though it is simple it is also a very bold icon that has strong connotations. A noose has been used for centuries for execution as well as racial injustice. There are many different reasons why you may need to draw one, whether it relates to a story you are illustrating or you would like to create shock value in your art. By following a few steps you can make sure that your drawing has the kind of impact you are looking for.

Things You'll Need

  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Lightly draw a straight line from top to bottom and an oval at the end. The oval can be slightly shaped like a tear drop, so make it a little wider at the bottom. Lightly draw another line and oval around the first sketch. This will give the drawing its noose shape.

  • Draw a thick, slightly rectangular shape above the oval. This will be the main knot. Draw two smaller knots at the top of that rectangular shape and at the bottom where it meets the top of the oval shape. The knot can be created by drawing two oval-like shapes connected by a round square in between.

  • Draw soft diagonal lines inside the outline of the noose to give the texture of the rope. Draw over lines to make it more finalized. Make the lines toward the bottom heavier to give the illusion of gravity.
