How to Choose the Right Refrigerator Starting Relay

The relay helps turn on the motor in your refrigerator.

If the motor stops working in your refrigerator, it will stop producing the necessary cold air to keep your food from spoiling. Often, the issue is not with the motor but with a defective relay. There are many types of relays available for appliances so simply walking into a service center will not help you choose the correct one. You need to obtain specific information from your appliance before you can choose the correct relay to repair your refrigerator.

Instructions

1. Open the refrigerator door and locate the product sticker inside. It is usually located on the left side panel.

2. Write down the serial number of the refrigerator and the model number. Do not assume the model number listed on the outside of the refrigerator is the actual model number. In some cases, that number is a branded number or name that a consumer can identify.

3. Contact or visit an authorized service center or parts supplier for your refrigerator's manufacturer.

4. Provide the service representative with the model number and the serial number. The representative will provide you with the correct part or part number for the motor starter relay.
