A Harp is a simple instrument drawn with basic shapes

A harp is a musical instrument that consists of a frame and many strings. Harps come in different models; there are floor harps and hand-held harps, both of which are similar in appearance. Harps can often be seen in drawings of angels. A harp is very basic in structure, making it one of the easiest musical instruments to draw and ideal for a beginning artist.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a vertical line at a slight right angle from the top of the paper to the lower corner. The line can be any length, depending upon the size you want to make the harp. It forms the shoulder of the harp. Draw a second line just out side of this one and connect the two together to give some thickness to the shoulder section.

    • 2

Begin an upward curved line from the shoulder of the harp and extend it at a slightly downward angle to about the center width of the instrument you're drawing. Then angle the line up to a point. This section forms the harmonic arch.

    • 3

Draw a vertical line extending from the tip of the harmonic arch toward the bottom of the paper. This is the pillar section of the harp. Curve the line slightly toward the inside of the harp as you bring it down to the base of the instrument.

    • 4

Draw two small arched lines at the base of the instrument for the feet the instrument stands on. These feet should resemble two blocks of wood drawn with lines that meet in a point at the top. You can make these feet more ornate by drawing a jagged circle around each of the feet to make it look as if they are carved.

    • 5

Harps have too many to draw one at a time, but this isn't necessary. The trick is to create the illusion of all the strings. In the area between the frame you've drawn, draw thin vertical lines from one side to the other to create the appearance of numerous strings. Fill in the entire area, leaving some white space between them to distinguish strings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider looking at a photograph of a harp to work with. It will help you visualize the instrument as you draw it.
