How to Make a Folding Star With Straws

Making a 3D star shape from a straw or drinking straw is not difficult, but it does take some time and effort. You have to form five triangle points for the star before you can make the outside edges of the star. Folding the points of the star is the most complicated part of the procedure, but once you have one point formed the other points become a straightforward process. You can make these stars from long craft straws or even drinking straws.

Things You'll Need

  • Thin straw or drinking straws
  • Flatten the straw with a heavy book or other object for 24 hours.

  • Fold the straw at an angle in the middle to make a "V" shape. Hold the "V" upside down. Fold the left side of the V up over the right side. Fold the right side up over the left side.

  • Fold the two ends down over the folded triangle. Fold the left side over the triangle then the right side over the triangle. Fold the right side down again, then fold the left side over it. Fold the right side up again.

  • Fold the right down, left up and right down again. Continue to alternate folding the left and right sides over each other until you have five triangle shapes.

  • Fold the five points with the back ends together to form a 3D star shape. Fold the left end of the straw over to the right end to connect the two ends.

  • Wrap the combined strips around the outline of the star shape. Do this until you reach the ends of the straw. Tuck the ends of the straws into the star shape.
