How Do I Separate Pages in an InDesign Booklet?

If you only want some of the pages for a booklet, separate them before printing.

InDesign is a professional graphic design and layout program, made by Adobe. Booklets may be printed from InDesign documents with the "Print Booklet." This feature creates printer spreads for professional printing. When the two pages are printed on the same sheet, folded, and collated, the pages will to end up in the appropriate order. In the layout window the pages appear in sequence, but they will be printed in a different order in such a way that they tend to appear correct when folded and bound. InDesign accomplishes this by changing settings in order to adjust spacing between pages and margins. There is no need to shuffle or rotate the pages in the document. If you wish, you may separate specific pages out of a document when printing a booklet.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your document in InDesign and click on the File menu.

    • 2

Choose "Print booklet" from the menu.

    • 3

Click on the "Range" button in the printer window that opens up. This is where you separate the pages out of the entire document that you wish to print. Use a hyphen to denote consecutive pages and a comma to denote nonconsecutive pages. For instance, if you wrote "2, 3-5," you would separate out pages two, three, four and five for a booklet.

Go to the Print Booklet dialog box to choose what type of booklet you would like to print with the separated pages. You may choose the two-up Saddle Stitch, which is good for folded and stapled booklets; a two-up Perfect Bound, which is more ideal for leaves that will be glued to a binding; and Consecutive, which creates a long panel made up of multiple pages.
