How to Draw a Rat Step-by-Step
Drawing animals can be a challenging task, as you have to depict aspects of their anatomy you may be unaware of. The rat is a prominent example, as famous cartoons, such as Mighty Mouse and Mickey Mouse, are not realistic depictions. However, starting from a basic outline and moving on to the details can be a great help when drawing a rat's profile. Remember to use a pencil, so that you can erase the shapes you formed when designing the rat's outline.

1
Form a potato-like shape for the rat's body and attach an olive shape for its head. Draw a line at the back of the potato shape as the base of the tail and two short straight lines at the front for the legs.
-
2
Draw the facial details of the rat: make a nose by forming a C shape near the end of the head, and draw a long grin closing with a greater than symbol (>). Make the eye round or elliptical; the iris must be completely black with a small white spot. Don't not make the eye human like.

-
3
Make elliptic ears, with the back one - on your point of view - emerging slightly over the head. Rats don't have the big ears of Mickey Mouse. Draw the rat's whiskers and make the olive-like head slightly narrower on the nose's side.
-
4
Draw zigzag lines on the left and right of the lines you initially drew as leg - zigzag lines give the impression of fur. Make the legs thick near the body and narrower as they reach the paws. Design paws with sharp nails when the fury part of the legs is over, as well as on the back-bottom part of the body.
-
5
Draw two lines on each side of the initial tail line and bring them together to sharpen the tail's edge. Erase the initial line and draw small parallel lines throughout the tails.
-
6
Erase any remaining lines from the shapes you used to draw the outline, and then paint the rat. Use gray for the fur and pink for the nose, paws and tail. The latter can be pale orange as well.
