How to Draw Anime Rocks

Rocks in anime can be round or have jagged straight edges.

Rocks in anime are created by using basic shapes similar to other objects. There simple shapes make them some of the easiest objects to draw. Adding overlapping shapes along with light and shadow will give the rocks a 3-D effect. Rocks have magical effects such as rising off of the ground and flying through the air or disappearing and reappearing in another location. Some characters are able to make rocks twirl around them while they are protected by a magic shield.

Things You'll Need

• Paper
• Pencil
• Eraser

Instructions

1. Sketch outlines of rocks by using basic shapes such as rectangles, squares, circles, ovals and upside down "U." Add details to the shapes to create an organic form such as jagged edges or rounded edges.

2. Add depths by creating one rock in front of another.

3. Create additional depth by adding light and shadows. Determine the light source and shade in the areas to create the shadows.

4. Erase any overlapping lines and lines that are needed.

Tips & Warnings

• For a special effect, create rocks flying off the ground. Have the rocks at the bottom the largest and gradually become smaller as they reach the top rocks. The farther from the bottom, the smaller they are.
