Capture the essence of childhood while wearing your "Toy Story"-inspired costume. You can become Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear or even a claw machine alien with just a few wardrobe pieces and a little ingenuity. Craft character-specific pieces to pair with your ready-made clothes for a costume that captures the magic of childhood and brings a smile to your face.
Woody’s cowboy costume can be created from many garments already in most closets. Costume pieces include blue jeans, brown boots, a brown cowboy hat, a cowhide vest, a red handkerchief and a long-sleeved yellow button-up shirt with thin, red plaid stripes. Create Woody’s shirt by adding 1/4-inch strips of red duct tape to a yellow shirt. Place several columns of red duct tape across the front and back of the shirt. Add 1/4-inch strips of red duct tape horizontally across the duct-taped columns. Add strips of duct tape down and around each arm to form the thin plaid lines. Use a white T-shirt to create Woody’s western vest. Cut the arms from the shirt and make a vertical cut from the center front hem to the center of the neckband. Cut the length from the T-shirt to create a cropped garment. Paint large cow spots onto the T-shirt vest.
Jessie wears a white long-sleeved button-up shirt with a yellow collar and yellow cuffs, blue jeans, white and black cowhide chaps and a red cowboy hat. Create a collar and cuffs out of yellow felt. Cut triangle pieces of felt the same size as your shirt’s collar. Hot glue the fabric over the collar. Draw curlicues onto the yellow fabric with a red fabric marker. Hot glue yellow fabric over the shirt’s cuffs. Draw more curlicues onto the fabric with the red marker. Cut two rectangular pieces of cow-print fabric to make chaps. Make sure you have enough fabric to cover the area from your mid-thigh to your ankle. Adhere the fabric onto the top of your jeans with glue.
Buzz Lightyear Costume
Buzz Lightyear's costume can be created from a white turtleneck, white sweatpants and foam board. Use white foam board to create Buzz Lightyear's wings. The wings should be the same length as your arm span and shaped like plane wings. Connect these wings to a white foam board rocket pack with duct tape. The rocket pack should be the same width as your back and shaped like a rectangle. Color the bottom section of the wings blue, and leave the top inch of the wings white. Paint red squares onto the white area. The wing tips should be painted lime green. Add a red circle to the top of the green wing tips. Create the chest piece from white foam board and add a lime green bib to the top of the chest. Decorate the chest piece with colorful pieces of foam to represent buttons. Attach the front and back of the foam board to the turtleneck. Add strips of lime green duct tape to white rain boots to create Buzz's space shoes. Wear a purple hood over your hair to complete the look.
Claw Machine Alien Costume
Create the "Toy Story" alien costume with a blue tunic, a lime green baseball cap and white, black, blue and yellow felt. Decorate the front of the baseball cap with alien eyes. Cut three round shapes from the white felt for eyes and hot glue them across the front of the ball cap. Glue smaller black pieces of felt into the center of these circles for eyes. Make a patch for your tunic. Cut a round circle to represent a planet from the blue felt. Cut a yellow piece of felt to make a planetary ring. Cut several red and white felt dots to decorate the planet's surface. Glue the red and white dots to the planet's surface, and then glue the yellow ring across the front of the planet.
