If you can hear the blower running in your Kenmore 700 series dryer, but the drum is not spinning, then you have a broken belt. Replacing the belt is not difficult, but it does mean taking the dryer apart. Once you open the dryer case, the rest is easy. An average do-it-yourselfer can complete the project and have the dryer back to working order in about 30 minutes. You do not need any special tools to do the job.
Things You'll Need
- Screwdriver set
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the lint screen from the top of the dryer. Remove the lint screen bracket from the dryer by removing the retaining screws with a screwdriver and set it aside. Pull the dryer away from the wall.
Insert the screwdriver between the seam of the dryer top and the front panel. Pry the lid up with the screwdriver until it pops free from the retaining clips. Lean the top against the wall at the back of the dryer. Remove the front panel retaining screws from inside the dryer body using a screwdriver. Lift the panel away from the dryer.
Remove the broken belt from the dryer drum. Loop the new belt around the dryer drum. The ribs in the belt go against the dryer drum. Insert the belt through the belt tensioner. Connect the other end of the belt to the dryer motor by looping it around the pulley. Place the front panel back on the dryer. Secure the panel by installing the screws on the inside of the dryer and tightening them with a screwdriver.
Lower the top of the dryer and press down firmly until it locks into place. Install the lint screen bracket and install the screws using a screwdriver. Plug the cord back into the electrical outlet and push the dryer against the wall.
