How to Draw a Black & White Lion
Drawing a lion can be a fun activity that can improve your skills with recreating animals in a realistic manner. This particular task is not as difficult as you may think, as patience and practice are two ultimate factors that will determine how your image will look. A picture of a male or female lion, whichever you prefer, can also assist you in drawing this animal as best as you possibly can.

1
Draw a circle to get a rough idea of where you will place the head of the lion on the piece of paper. This circle should be slightly oval in shape, as it will need to be taller than it is wider to give a sense of a slender face.
-
2
Create a shape relative to the letter "W" at the bottom of this circle to act as the upper half of the lion's mouth and connecting nose. Draw a "U"-shaped line underneath this to complete the mouth. Use light pencil marks while sketching out the head so that you may erase any erratic lines easily. Add whiskers to the upper mouth area to complete this facial feature.

3
Draw football-shaped ovals for the eyes of the animal, using the reference guide to help you proportionally place these facial features in the correct space. Notice how certain areas of the lion's eyes are thicker and darker, like the animal is wearing mascara. Lightly sketch the pupils of the lion's eyes as well.
-
4
Sketch the mane of the lion as it is shaped in the picture. Use light pencil strokes until you have confidently created the basic outline of the lion's mane, paying close attention to the way the hair flows. Use light, vertical pencil strokes to define the hair in the mane area more predominantly.
-
5
Sketch the body of the lion as it appears in the picture. Carefully line the body with light pencil marks until you are confident in the overall shape of the animal's body, legs and tail.
-
6
Check the outline of the lion's body with the shape as it is pictured in the reference guide for any similarities or differences in proportions. Erase and fix any differences you come across, then detail each of the sections of the lion's body.
-
7
Trace all of the pencil lines of the lion's head, body and detailed features with an ink pen to create a bolder look in your drawing. Be sure to use the pen very carefully when tracing these pencil lines, as you will not be able to fix any mistakes as easily. Let the ink dry, then erase all remaining pencil marks from the page.
