The Brother P-Touch 1000 handheld label maker is a perfect organizational tool for home-use. This compact and easy-to-use machine helps with simple jobs with its small LCD screen and easy-to-read capability. Write out labels up to 55 characters in length, with five different size options, two font options and 10 style options. While the machine may not be manufactured by the Brother company anymore, cassette refills are still available.

Flip the Brother P-Touch 1000 over so you are looking at the bottom of it.

Press down with your fingers on the rough edge at the top end of the machine. Unhook the two hooks inserted into the bottom end of the machine. Pull the back cover off by lifting straight up from the machine.

Take off the paper tab that may be attached to a new tape cassette.

Insert the tape cassette so that the middle hole is inserted over the rolling mechanism within the machine, like you would with a cassette tape and a tape player. Face the exposed tape on the cassette so that it lies at the top of the machine near the cutter unit and exit slot.

Listen for a clicking sound. Press the tape firmly into the unit but do not force it.

Insert the two hooks of the back cover into the bottom of the machine. Press the cover down firmly with your fingers until you hear another clicking sound.
