There are many different kinds of wall textures available to homeowners. One of the easiest ways to apply plaster to walls is with a spray gun. This type of texturing creates an orange-peel appearance on the wall. You can plaster an entire room with texture in just a few hours with a spray gun. This is important because other types of texturing can take much longer. A spray gun with the appropriate plaster attachments can be rented at your local rental center.
Things You'll Need
- Drop cloths
- Painter's tape
- Paint mask
- Drywall mud
- Spray gun
- Air compressor
Cover furniture, floors and windows with drop cloths and painters tape to protect any areas of the room that do not need to be plastered.
Put on gloves and a paint mask.
Thin the drywall mud with a small amount of water. The mixture should be thin enough to create an orange-peel texture. Pour the drywall mixture into the hopper of the spray gun. Attach the spray gun to the air compressor. Keep the air pressure to about 25 to 45 lbs. Test the mixture by spraying it onto a piece of cardboard.
Apply the plaster to the walls. Move the spray gun consistently over the walls and ceiling so that you are never stuck in one place. Allow the plaster to dry overnight.
Tips & Warnings
- The best way to determine the proper mix of drywall mud and water is by experimentation because no spray gun and texture mixture is the same.
